[box type=”shadow”]  Recommendation:

The Rivoli is tonight’s best show, hands down! Debra DiGiovanni (Just For Laughs 30th Anniversary Festival, Video On Trial), Eddie Della Siepe (Comedy Now, Great Canadian Laugh Off, Video on Trial), and John Hastings (departing to U.K. for the full time comedy scene this summer!)  hold down the roof in one of Toronto’s most reveled rooms. The Riv’ has a reputation for being a relatively difficult room (ie. the crowd expects the comic to earn their keep), meaning comedians pull out all the stops to deliver an engaging and memorable show. If you’ve ever wondered how a comedian ‘reacts and adapts to the audience,’ visit the Rivoli tonight to witness it first-hand. Look at that- we’re laughing and learning…[/box]

[box type=”shadow”] Recommendation:

Tonight’s show suggestion depends on your experience (or lack of) in Toronto’s comedy scene. So let’s break it down accordingly:

“This ain’t my first rodeo”- You should check out the Gayest Show on Earth at the Gladstone Hotel (Queen/Ossington). The venue harbors a wide variety of events; music, comedy and even drag shows- a perfect place for tonight’s performance! It’s chill bar and ‘Brooklyn-esque’ vibe is home to a friendly audience who still demands a great show.

“Please be gentle, I’m new” – The Eton House is one of the longest running rooms in Toronto. Hosted by the infamous Jo-Anna Downey (up for the Phil Hartman Canadian Comedy Award, given to someone who helps to better the comedy community), she’s put up a stellar line up. Andre Arruda (Yuk Yuk’s, Jon Dore Television Show, Kenny vs. Spenny), Kristeen von Hagen (winner of 3 Canadian Comedy Awards for her Stand Up, writing, and performance) are just some of the performers who will help ease you into Toronto’s comedy scene. [/box]

[box type=”shadow”] Recommendation:

It’s definitely to Wet For Busking tonight! With ridiculously good sketch by  Parker and Seville (well loved in Toronto’s Comedy, Burlesque and Circus scenes; Yuk Yuk’s, The Rivoli, Second City, The Centre of Gravity’s Lunacy Cabaret and all around the US), Sex Trex (creators of Fringe’s live improsed action movie Callaghan!, selected by NYC UCB’s Del Close Marathon), and stellar stand up by rising stars Craig Fay and Brian Ward, you can bet your last loonie that tonight’s Bus Stop Loonies will deliver! [/box]

[box type=”shadow”] Recommendation:

Unlike The Titanic and the American Banking and Auto Industries, “Too Big to Fail”  conveys the promise of this venture sans irony. With the combined talent of Alex Pavone, Erik Bamberg, Tim Dutaud, Jeff Elliot, and Host Sean Cookson, they’ll never need a bail-out by Canadian Comedic superstar Pete Zedlacher, Instead, Pete will hammer it home and gave back to the people- call it comedic Socialism. Even though this show is Toronto’s heavy hitters and big shots, we don’t think they’ll get much flack for showing up in private jets…yet.[/box]

“I want Improv and Sketch” – Then you’ll want to see the 11:00pm Best of the Second City Main Stage show! Tonight, they’ll be delivering some of the best material from the past fifty years (from both their most famous sketches and from audience suggestions). Since seeing Anand Rajaram perform the infamous ‘Butter Chicken’ sketch several years ago in the Second City’s revue,  we realized the Second City (and Anand) will continue to produce some of the best Canadian comedy of the decade. [box type=”shadow”] Recommendation:

Tonight’s show suggestions depends on your preferences; Stand Up or Sketch/Improv?

“The vulnerability of one soul shall suffice! I crave Stand Up!” Then you should go see Darcy Micheal at the Flying Beaver Pubaret! What better way to spend Pride Fest on Saturday night then to watch the weed-loving, Vancouver comic as he presents his latest performance, One Skinny Bitch. Maybe you’d recognize Darcy from the viral video where he reads a complaint letter from an irate audience member, or maybe you’ve been lucky enough to see him live, but regardless he’s in Toronto during a cross country tour. Check him while you can!

“I need the vulnerability of many souls! Present to me Improv/Sketch!” Don’t let the utterly amazing previous log line deter you, there’s a fantastic Improv show happening tonight at the Comedy Bar. TheatreSports is Toronto’s longest-running unscripted comedy show. You should go see some of the quickest and funniest comedy minds do battle in the Bad Dog’s flagship presentation.

Oh yeah- honorable mention: Bobby Mair at Yuk Yuk’s downtown! [/box]

Once again, tonight’s pick is Sunday Night Live at the Comedy Bar, 9:30pm! Canadian Comedy Award winning troupe The Sketchersons plays host to one of the longest running sketch shows in the city! Their consistent high standards have helped churn out some of the finest writers and comedians Toronto has seen this past decade. With an amazing guest host (in the past guests like Greg ProopsTodd Glass, and Bret “The Hitman” Hart), you’re sure to have an amazing time. [/box]

About The Author: Taylor Erwin

Taylor Erwin, 26, is creator, editor and CEO of Comedy Uncovered. A screenwriter, comedian, producer, copywritert, and life-long fan of comedy, he’s now committed his talents and skills to a series of diverse projects until he “gets his.” After obtaining an engineering degree from Ryerson University, he migrated to New York City. It was here, while working on a series of large industrial construction projects, he immersed himself in the NYC comedy scene which left a great impression on him. Returning to Toronto with new found inspiration and vigor, he wrote and performed two one-man shows, left his engineering job and traveled abroad. Currently back in Toronto, he spends his time performing, writing, and, as Taylor puts it, “livin’ the dream.”
